August 12th Farmers Market
Here's a list of produce and other items from the farm/garden available at this week's market:
THIS WEEK’S EVENTS:
Chef Dave Tallent of Restaurant Tallent (Bloomington) will wow us with his culinary skills for a Farm to Fork demonstration. He’ll cook up something yummy using farmers market ingredients.
The Stonebelt Stargazers will be at the market with their telescopes to teach us more about what’s in the sky.
These were popular events last year. So, come to the market this Saturday, have a cup of coffee, listen to some fun music under the Host Tent, browse the books, visit with friends, participate in the events, and, of course, do your shopping for the week. We love having you!
OUR VENDOR OF THE WEEK:
Our vendor of the week will be Rachel Hays. She sells wonderful baked goods and produce from her Orleans garden. This Saturday, she’ll have homemade pizza dough and pesto for sale so that you can easily make a grilled pizza with the produce you buy at the market. Stop by the Host Tent for the recipe. If you are visiting her booth when the timer rings, you’ll get a coupon!
REPORT FROM LAST WEEK’S MARKET:
It was a perfectly lovely day at the market. We had 51 vendors. We registered one new vendor from Paoli. Market volunteer, Alice Wootton, showed market visitors how to grill pizza using the bounty of the garden. She used homemade pizza dough and pesto made by vendor, Rachel Hays, plus the freshest produce bought that morning from our produce vendors. She gave out many free samples and recipes.
While shoppers munched on pizza, musician Paul Ash entertained them with original songs.
Hoosier Riverwatch, a volunteer water-quality monitoring program, set up a great display of specimens and live creatures found in our streams. Many thanks go to Maple Street Restaurant for donating ice to keep the creatures alive.
We’d like to thank Paoli Mennonite Church for thoughtfully donating their sale proceeds of their Jubilee Community Garden to the farmers market.
Our Buck-a-Book Booth received a huge donation of books this week to the delight of our visitors. As a result, Buck-a-Book made record sales. All the money from books sales goes to support Orange County HomeGrown Farmers Market. Our supply of children’s books is still running a bit low. We are asking our visitors to please consider donating children’s books to our Buck-a-Book Booth.
