THIS WEEK’S EVENTS:
Ladies and gentlemen, don your bonnets and derby hats, bring the kids and then start your engines ‘cause it’s the 3rd annual Zucchini 500 Race Day! The Orleans Cub Scout Pack 384 will be at the Market at 9:00 a.m. to begin registering the kids. Registration is free! (Children must be accompanied by an adult to participate.) The Market will provide the zucchinis. (In the unlikely event we run out of zucchinis, we’ll just use another kind of vegetable!) The children will then decorate their zucchinis and attach them to very cool racecar chassis made by Market volunteer Bob Turner. The Cub Scouts will conduct the races down a track they constructed just for the occasion around 10:00 a.m. All of the kids who enter the race will get to keep their racecar and will receive a 50-cent coupon to spend at the Market. The top three winners will each receive an awesome trophy made by vendor Bobbie Beckett and a gift certificate for the Market. Moms, Dads and Grandparents, don’t forget your cameras! To top it all off, we’ll have some great music by Whippoorwill Consort! And, as always, we’ll have fun music provided by our own Farmers Market Jammers! Bring your instrument and/or your singing voice and join in.
LOST AND FOUND ITEMS:
If you’ve lost an item at the Market or accidentally left a purchase at a booth, please check with the Host Tent. Our vendors and customers always turn lost items in to the Host Tent.
SPECIAL REQUEST:
The Buck-a-Book Trailer is still in need of used children’s books. Please consider clearing off your bookshelves and donating books for the kids! Thanks a heap!
OUR VENDOR OF THE WEEK: Bobbie Beckett will be our featured vendor this week. He makes unique items out of leather including belts, plus, he makes wooden crafts too. He even made the trophies for the Zucchini 500 Races. If you are visiting his booth when the timer rings, you’ll get a coupon!
REPORT FROM LAST WEEK’S MARKET: It was a pleasantly warm, sunny, breezy summer day at the Market. We had 61 vendors again this week and our customer count was above 150 every hour! We registered 2 new vendors. We had visitors from North Dakota, New York, California and all parts of Indiana. Local blacksmith, Stephen King, took time from his busy schedule to show visitors how he crafts items with iron. Chef Gregg Rago “Raggs” of Nick’s English Hut, Bloomington, IN made a return visit with his wife Susan and cooked up some fabulous hamburgers using all natural beef from Dave Fischer’s Farm. He also used our beautiful locally grown produce to dress up those mouth-watering burgers that he served to over 100 visitors. We’d like to again express our appreciation for the grill donated to us by Hoosier Hills Credit Union and also the propane donated by Patoka Propane!
OTHER GREAT FEATURES AT THE MARKET: Be sure to stop by and see our new BUCK A BOOK/BOOK A BOOK TRAILOR where you can browse a great selection of books. We welcome the donations of books for the book trailer. All of the money from book sales goes to support Orange County HomeGrown Farmers Market (Orleans). Just bring the books to the BUCK A BOOK/BOOK A BOOK TRAILOR and choose a book for free. Visit us at the Host Tent and have a free cup of coffee courtesy of our neighbor, Maple Street Restaurant. We are fortunate to have friendly, helpful MASTER GARDENERS at every market. Bring your gardening questions to the MASTER GARDENER TABLE and they will be very happy to help you! Learn more about the LOST RIVER COMMUNTIY CO-OP which will open a new grocery store in Paoli this fall. You’ll be able to get a sneak preview of what the store will look like and see its floor plan. You can even sign up to be a member!
