THIS WEEK’S EVENTS:
It’s time to Make-Your-Own Scarecrow! Bring the kids and some old clothes to dress up your scarecrow. We’ll provide the straw and twine. Of course, we’ll have lots of pumpkins available for purchase for your scarecrow’s head. Stop by the Host Tent to get details about how to participate in our first annual Scarecrow Contest which will take place at the Market on October 20th. Watercolor artist, Anna Marie Mahler will return this Saturday with her sweet chocolate lab, Cicely, and her paints. Watch how she transforms her canvas into a beautiful work of art. If you are planning ahead for next spring’s garden, bring 2 cups of your garden soil in a clean jar or plastic zip lock bag, then stop by and see our Master Gardener, Mary Lou Beckett. She will take your soil sample, test it right there at the Market and give you the results. And, as always, our Farmers Market Jammers will lift your spirits with their fun music. Bring your instrument and/or your singin’ voice and join in!

OCTOBER FARMERS MARKET HOURS:
The Orange County HomeGrown Farmers Market (Orleans) will be open through the month of October. Because of the shortened autumn days, our opening time for the last month of this season will be at 9:00 a.m. beginning October 6th. We’ll be open until noon, as always.

OUR VENDOR OF THE WEEK: Barbara Penn will be this week’s featured vendor. She makes very nice folk art for your home. If you are visiting her booth when the timer rings, you’ll get a coupon!

REPORT FROM LAST WEEK’S MARKET: It was a warm and sunny September morning at the Market. Forty-five vendors set up their tents and tables with a stunning sunrise as their backdrop. We registered 2 vendors. At 10:00, we had over 100 visitors at the park, including someone from Las Vegas visiting family here and a couple from Australia who stopped by on their way to Tennessee when they noticed the Square Dancers dancing away by the park fountain. Watercolor artist, Anna Marie Mahler sat in the shade of the sycamore tree and painted a lovely picture while chatting with shoppers. Our Master Gardener, Mary Lou Beckett informed gardeners how to take a soil sample for testing. At our market on the 29th, she’ll take your soil sample, test it right there at the Market and give you the results.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS FOR THIS YEAR’S ORANGE COUNTY HOMEGROWN HOLIDAY MARKET:
Orange County HomeGrown Holiday Market will take place Saturday, November 17th from 9 am – 3 pm at the Paoli High School Cafeteria and Lobby. We’re expecting about 50 local vendors. We’ll have entertainment throughout the day. Refreshments will be available.

OTHER GREAT FEATURES AT THE MARKET: Be sure to stop by and see our new BUCK A BOOK/BOOK A BOOK TRAILOR where you can browse a great selection of books. We welcome the donations of books for the book trailer. All of the money from book sales goes to support Orange County HomeGrown Farmers Market (Orleans). Just bring the books to the BUCK A BOOK/BOOK A BOOK TRAILOR and choose a book for free. Visit us at the Host Tent and have a free cup of coffee courtesy of our neighbor, Maple Street Restaurant. We are fortunate to have friendly, helpful MASTER GARDENERS at every market. Bring your gardening questions to the MASTER GARDENER TABLE and they will be very happy to help you! Learn more about the LOST RIVER COMMUNITY CO-OP which will be opening a new grocery store in Paoli this fall. You’ll be able to get a sneak preview of what the store, LOST RIVER MARKET & DELI, will look like and see its floor plan. You can even sign up to be a member!
