REPORT FROM LAST WEEK’S MARKET: We couldn’t have been happier with this season’s Opening Day. The weather was perfection and we had a great turnout of vendors, visitors and volunteers! We had 47 vendors, including several new to our market, begin our season, a record for Opening Day. At 10:00, we had over 100 visitors at the park. HomeGrown Board President and Buck-a-Book Volunteer, Bob Turner, served as Master of Ceremonies for our season opener. Robert Henderson, Orleans Chamber of Commerce President, spoke of Congress Square Park’s history as a gathering place and how the farmers market fit right in. Mike Fields of the Orleans Town Council officially welcomed the farmers market. Phil Mininger blessed the market and spoke of hope of bounty for all. Pete Webb and Jesse Smith performed a song about our market Pete wrote to the tune of “House of the Rising Sun” to the delight of the crowd. Here’s a portion: “There is a place in good old Orleans they call the Farmers Market. Take your vehicle to the Square and find a place to park it! Fruits, greens and veggies will be a great delight. Buy them today at the Market and have them on the table tonight!”
OTHER GREAT FEATURES AT THE MARKET: Be sure to stop by and see our new BUCK A BOOK/BOOK A BOOK TRAILER where you can browse a great selection of books. (We have thousands!)
