REPORT FROM LAST WEEK’S MARKET:
What a perfectly lovely fall day for not only the farmers market, but the Town of Orleans’ Fall Fun Fest! We had 51 vendors set up. At 10 a.m., we counted 205 visitors and at 11 a.m., we counted 282 on the market side of the park. There were plenty other people around the park as well for the town’s Fall Fun Fest activities. We had visitors from the Chicago area, Minnesota, Bloomington, and all the way from Germany! While visitors made scarecrows in our Make-Your-Scarecrow area, Executive Chef Brian Schack from French Lick Springs Resort Hotel made a fabulous homemade pumpkin ice cream during his chef demo. And, boy, was there a long line for dips of this delicious treat! Anna Marie Mahler entertained art fans with her pretty watercolor painting. Many visitors brought empty containers to fill with refreshing apple cider pressed with our “new” antique cider press donated by Phil Mininger and run by volunteer Jamie Sullivan and his sweet children. Our favorite firefighters from the Orleans Fire Department brought their trucks and handed out safety information to visiting families. Our buddies from the Tri-County Antique Machinery Farm Association graced the farmers market with their tractors. Mary Lou Beckett, our beloved Master Gardener, tested garden soil for at least a half-dozen area gardeners.
OTHER GREAT FEATURES AT THE MARKET: Be sure to stop by and see our new BOOK-A-BOOK TRAILER where you can browse a great selection of books. (We have thousands!) We welcome the donations of books for the book trailer. All of the money from book sales goes to support Orange County HomeGrown Farmers Market (Orleans).
