OUR VENDOR OF THE WEEK: Marcia Gwaltney is this week’s featured vendor. Marcia is new to our market this season. She sells the prettiest boxes and prints, plus beautiful stationary! They would make lovely gifts if you could stand to part with them. If you are visiting her booth when the timer rings, you’ll get a coupon!
REPORT FROM LAST WEEK’S MARKET: Well, I’ll be! Opening Day broke records! Even with some of our veteran vendors absent due to graduations and Memorial Day travels, we had 69 vendors in attendance! Last year, we opened with 47 vendors. Our customer count was up from last year’s Opening Day as well. Last year at 9 a.m. we had 45 visitors, this year 87 visitors. Last year at 10 a.m. we had 107 visitors, this year 152 visitors. Last year at 11 a.m. we had 79 visitors, this year 164 visitors. It was great to see everyone again and also to welcome new faces. Before the season began, we registered 77 vendors early. We registered 16 vendors on Opening Day making a total of 93 vendors have registered so far (23 brand new to our market.) By last year’s season’s end we had registered 123 vendors. Thank goodness we had a great team of volunteers who showed up to help us out. (We still need volunteers.) For our Blessing of the Market Ceremony, we had special guest speakers Robert Henderson, Michael Fields and Representative Sandy Blanton. We were thrilled to have Mary Mininger bless the market again this year. Musical duo Late for Supper (Pete Webb and Jesse Smith) performed a song written especially for the occasion. Several visitors took advantage of our horse and buggy rides through the historic neighborhoods of Orleans with Brack Coulter and Linda Lee as their guides. We hope to have horse and buggy rides throughout the season.
OTHER GREAT FEATURES AT THE MARKET: Be sure to stop by and see our BUCK A BOOK/BOOK A BOOK TRAILER where you can browse a great selection of books. (We have thousands!) We welcome the donations of books for the book trailer. All of the money from book sales goes to support Orange County HomeGrown Farmers Market (Orleans). Just bring the books to the BUCK A BOOK/BOOK A BOOK TRAILER and choose a book for free. Visit us at the Host Tent and have a free cup of coffee courtesy of our neighbor, Maple Street Restaurant. We are fortunate to have friendly, helpful MASTER GARDENERS at every market. Bring your gardening questions to the MASTER GARDENER TABLE and they will be very happy to help you! Another great feature of the Market is the addition of the Orange County Recycling Co-op truck. They will take household items for recycling, such as cardboard, newspapers, junk mail, paper, magazines, catalogues, plastic bottles #1 and #2, aluminum cans, scrap metal, metal cans, plastic grocery bags. Please rinse out plastic bottles and remove lids. Also, rinse out cans. Please break down cardboard boxes. Many of our produce vendors are WIC VENDORS and will accept WIC and Senior Farmers Market Nutritional Program vouchers. Visit the LOST RIVER MARKET & DELI INFORMATION BOOTH and learn more about our local community grocery store in Paoli, located at 26 Library Street behind the Paoli Public Library. This full service member-owned food co-op market not only has a deli, but also bulk items, local and organic produce, local meats, cheeses, natural foods, wine and beer. Be sure to stop by to take a look. Everyone is welcome.
