REPORT FROM LAST WEEK’S MARKET:
What a perfectly lovely fall day for not only the farmers market, but the Town of Orleans’ Fall Fun Fest! We had 51 vendors set up. At 10 a.m., we counted 205 visitors and at 11 a.m., we counted 282 on the market side of the park. There were plenty other people around the park as well for the town’s Fall Fun Fest activities. We had visitors from the Chicago area, Minnesota, Bloomington, and all the way from Germany! While visitors made scarecrows in our Make-Your-Scarecrow area, Executive Chef Brian Schack from French Lick Springs Resort Hotel made a fabulous homemade pumpkin ice cream during his chef demo. And, boy, was there a long line for dips of this delicious treat! Anna Marie Mahler entertained art fans with her pretty watercolor painting. Many visitors brought empty containers to fill with refreshing apple cider pressed with our “new” antique cider press donated by Phil Mininger and run by volunteer Jamie Sullivan and his sweet children. Our favorite firefighters from the Orleans Fire Department brought their trucks and handed out safety information to visiting families. Our buddies from the Tri-County Antique Machinery Farm Association graced the farmers market with their tractors. Mary Lou Beckett, our beloved Master Gardener, tested garden soil for at least a half-dozen area gardeners.

OTHER GREAT FEATURES AT THE MARKET: Be sure to stop by and see our new BOOK-A-BOOK TRAILER where you can browse a great selection of books. (We have thousands!) We welcome the donations of books for the book trailer. All of the money from book sales goes to support Orange County HomeGrown Farmers Market (Orleans). Just bring the books to the BOOK-A-BOOK TRAILER and choose a book for free. Visit us at the Host Tent and have a FREE CUP OF COFFEE courtesy of our neighbor, Maple Street Restaurant. We are fortunate to have friendly, helpful MASTER GARDENERS at every market. Bring your gardening questions to the MASTER GARDENER TABLE and they will be very happy to help you! Start your Saturday morning doing your body and soul some good by joining our popular weekly free yoga class for men and women at 8:30 a.m. with instructor, Janet Kennedy. No experience necessary. They’ll give you good instructions to show you how. If you are visiting either of their booths when the timer rings, you’ll get a coupon!

REPORT FROM LAST WEEK’S MARKET:
With 4 inches of rainfall in Orleans the day before, our vendor count was down a bit. However, it turned out to be a sunshiny day with big winds to keep us cool. We had 43 vendors set up and we registered 2 new vendors. We continue to have loads of lovely produce too, so there’s still much to do, buy and see at the farmers market. Square dancers came to hoof it near the park’s beautiful fountain. They certainly were fun to watch. Some of us even got to dance along with them. Including our square dancers, we had visitors from Bloomington, Indianapolis, Austin, Columbus, Nashville, Harrodsburg and Deputy Indiana as well as Louisville and Carrolton, Kentucky. It was Park Appreciation Day at the farmers market, so all of our donations made that day will go to the Town of Orleans to help with park upkeep. We’ve all been enjoying the very nice church bell music provided by our neighbor Orleans United Methodist Church as we close up the market each Saturday. The church also shares their parking lot with our vendors. And for both of these reasons, we certainly appreciate their presence on the square.

A new feature of the Market is the addition of the Orange County Recycling Co-op TRUCK. They will take household items for recycling, such as cardboard, newspapers, junk mail, paper, magazines, catalogues, plastic bottles #1 and #2, aluminum cans, scrap metal, metal cans, plastic grocery bags. Please rinse out plastic bottles and remove lids. Also, rinse out cans. Please break down cardboard boxes. Many of our produce vendors are WIC VENDORS and will accept WIC Market Nutritional Program vouchers. Visit the LOST RIVER MARKET & DELI INFORMATION BOOTH and learn more about the new local grocery store in Paoli, located at 26 Library Street behind the Paoli Public Library. This full service member-owned food co-op market not only has a deli, but also bulk items, local and organic produce, local meats, cheeses, natural foods, wine and beer. Be sure to stop by to take a look. Everyone is welcome.

NEW VALLEY FARMERS MARKET HOURS:
The Orange County HomeGrown Valley Market is now open on Tuesdays from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. The Market is located on the sidewalk connecting the Railroad Museum to the Casino property in French Lick. Shoppers can expect to buy homegrown greens and other produce, fresh from the chicken eggs, wonderful soaps and lotions, plants and flowers, jewelry, textile products, great books for a buck, and caramel corn and peanut brittle for your sweet tooth plus other creative items. Musicians are invited to join in the Market Jammers each week. There is also a Master Gardener on hand to answer your gardening questions.

SPECIAL REQUEST FOR CHILDREN’S BOOKS:
· Did you know that every child who visits the farmers market may choose a free book from the book wagon at our Buck-a-Book Trailer each week? REPORT FROM LAST WEEK’S MARKET:
It was a lovely fall-like day at the market today. We had 54 vendors and registered 3 new vendors. Chef Paul Owens from the French Lick Springs Resort Hotel showed us all how to make sweet and savory appetizers called bruschetta using produce he purchased from our vendors. We had visitors from Washington and California sign our guest book. We heard from the Red Cross. They collected 19 units of blood at last week’s farmers market. Thank you to those of you who gave. We have a correction from a previous report. Because we had a few vendors sharing booth space, we didn’t get an accurate vendor count a couple of weeks ago. The good news is that when we discovered the error, we found that we broke our all time record. On August 23rd, we reported we had 69 vendors. We discovered that we actually had 70 vendors on that day, our highest ever!

REPORT FROM LAST WEEK’S MARKET:
It is with an especially happy heart that I write this report from last week. Besides having 69 vendors (and signing up two vendors) we had 18 volunteers help with farmers market tasks!!! Now, that’s a record volunteer count. Our market is a success not only because we have the friendliest vendors and customers this side of anywhere, but we have many volunteers who are happy to help keep the market running smoothly. While Janet taught yoga poses under the shade of a tree and jammers played music to keep the mood light, the Stonebelt Stargazers, allowed visitors to gaze at the moon and sun through their telescopes. Around 10:00, we could smell terrific aromas coming from our Farm to Fork Chef Demonstration. West Baden Hotel Executive Chef Ethan Brown (also a Paoli native) made a delicious meal using ingredients he purchased from our local vendors. On the menu was Watermelon-Basil Salad with Balsamic Reduction, Asian Nori Rolls filled with a Fresh Vegetable Mixture and then for dessert, our visiting chef served Peach Bread topped with Peaches and Blackberries flambéed with Grand Marnier. Visitors from Pennsylvania, Indianapolis, Bloomington, Loogootee, and Fort Wayne signed our guest book. At 11:00, we counted 200 customers braving the returning heat and humidity. Will we reach 70 vendors next week?

OTHER GREAT FEATURES AT THE MARKET: Be sure to stop by and see our new BUCK A BOOK/BOOK A BOOK TRAILER where you can browse a great selection of books. (We have thousands!) REPORT FROM LAST WEEK’S MARKET:
Is it possible to have too much fun? We had a great time at the farmers market this week. We counted 68 vendors and registered 3 new vendors. (Will we make it to 70 this season??) It was Customer Appreciation Day at the market, and boy, were they given the red carpet treatment! Our generous vendors (the best and friendliest this side of anywhere!) donated loads of prizes for our drawings. A grand total of 77 customers won fabulous prizes and 6 lucky visitors won a $5.00 gift certificate. They were Trudy Brown, Sue Baker, Jack Mendell, Becky Johnson, Drew Henderson and Donna Keylor. Vendor, Brenda Jasper, baked special cookies just for our customers and put the cookies in pretty packages with a “thank you” note attached. These were served along with free coffee donated by our neighbor, Maple Street Restaurant. The 4-H kids came and proudly displayed their projects, including model cars and a painted banjo case. Singer-Songwriter and Poet, Paul Ash stopped by especially to share his many talents with us in our jam tent. There were over 20 musicians who played along. We even had a trumpet player join in! Visitors from Minnesota, Michigan, Ohio, Louisville, Ferdinand, Jasper, Bedford, Paoli, and English signed our guest book. At 9 a.m., we counted 128 visitors; at 10 a.m., we counted 197 visitors and at 11 a.m., we counted a whopping 230 visitors.

THIS WEEK’S EVENTS:
Start your Saturday morning doing your body and soul some good by joining our popular weekly free yoga class for men and women at 8:30 with instructor, Janet Kennedy. No experience necessary. All ability levels are welcome! If you don’t have a yoga mat, one will be provided for you. Other items to bring, if you wish: an old blanket, an old necktie or belt and an old sheet. We’ll welcome special musical guests “Wildflowers and Weeds.” We’re also delighted to host another Farm to Fork Chef Demonstration with West Baden Springs Hotel Executive Chef Ethan Smith at 10:00. Free samples and recipes while supplies last. The Orange County Recycling Co-op truck will be on hand to collect your household recyclables. Mary Lou Beckett, our favorite Master Gardener will be on hand to answer your gardening questions. And, as always, our Farmers Market Jammers will lift your spirits with their fun music. Bring your instrument and/or your singin’ voice and join in!

OUR VENDOR OF THE WEEK: Our featured vendor this week is Beulah Judd. Beulah sells lovely perennials and other flowering plants. Stop by and see her beautiful hibiscus plants. The hummingbirds love them! If you are visiting her booth when the timer rings, you’ll get a coupon!

REPORT FROM LAST WEEK’S MARKET:
It was a great day because it seemed as if everyone decided to spend their Saturday morning with us at the farmers market. We had 63 vendors and registered 4 brand new vendors to the market. We’re already well on our way to surpassing last year’s number of registered vendors. While the jammers played music and Janet lead her yoga class, vendors were busy selling the plethora of freshly picked summer produce. Our customer counts were sky high again today with 174 visitors at 9 a.m., 201 visitors at 10 a.m. and 143 visitors at 11 a.m. Visitors from Oregon and all parts of Indiana signed our guest book. Souse Chef Jeff Brown of French Lick Springs Hotel made a refreshing gazpacho using local tomatoes, cucumbers, onions and peppers and then prepared a really nice potato-green bean salad with vinaigrette.

OTHER GREAT FEATURES AT THE MARKET: Be sure to stop by and see our new BUCK A BOOK/BOOK A BOOK TRAILER where you can browse a great selection of books. (We have thousands!) We welcome the donations of books for the book trailer. All of the money from book sales goes to support Orange County HomeGrown Farmers Market (Orleans). Just bring the books to the BUCK A BOOK/BOOK A BOOK TRAILER and choose a book for free. Many of our produce vendors are WIC VENDORS and will accept WIC and Senior Farmers Market Nutritional Program vouchers.

The Orange County HomeGrown Valley Market is now open on Tuesdays from 3:00 to 6:30 p.m.
