What’s Happening at This Week’s Orange County HomeGrown Orleans Farmers Market
The Orange County HomeGrown Farmers Market is located on the west side of the beautiful historic Congress Square Park in Orleans, Indiana and takes place each Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until noon. Please support your local growers, bakers, artists and handcrafters by shopping at the Orange County HomeGrown Farmers Market. Bring your friends and family!
Last week, we surveyed our wonderful vendors. Here’s what they expect to have at the Orange County HomeGrown on Saturday, August 11th, 2007:

From the Farm: beets, cabbage, carrots, cantaloupe, chili peppers, corn, cucumbers, eggplant, green beans, herbs, onions, sweet peppers, potatoes, rhubarb, summer squash, tomatoes, watermelon, zucchini, plants, flowers, maple syrup, gourds

From the Kitchen: bagels, biscotti , brownies, cake, cookies, fudge, granola, pies, quick breads, scones, salt rising bread, yeast bread, yeast rolls, jams, jellies, doggie treats

Art and Crafts: baskets, bird houses, crochet, fresh flower arrangements, jewelry, leather goods, photographs, purses, rustic furniture, rugs, soaps, stationary, soft goods, hand sewn items, quilts, baskets, dolls, cutting boards, painted glass containers, aprons

THIS WEEK’S EVENTS:
We’re got some hot events happenin’ at the Market this week! The Stonebelt Stargazers will bring their telescopes for us to take a safe peek at the sun through a filtered lens. Put on your dancin’ shoes too, ‘cause Bonnie Burton-Taylor will wow us with a hot salsa dancing demonstration! To keep us safe in the hot sun, Bloomington Hospital of Orange County Outreach will provide us with free sunscreen while supplies last. And, as always, we’ll have fun music provided by our own Farmers Market Jammers! Bring your instrument and/or your singing voice and join in.

SPECIAL REQUEST:
The Buck-a-Book Trailer is in need of used children’s books and also some classics for the adults. Please consider clearing off your bookshelves and donating books. Thanks a heap!

OUR VENDOR OF THE WEEK:
Michael and Kinsley Jackson will be our featured vendors this week. The Jacksons are new to our Market this season. They make a variety of barbecue sauces. Stop by their booth for a tasty sample and meet the Jacksons. Michael is a chef at Sinclair’s in West Baden Dome. He’s planning a great Farm to Fork Chef Demo on September 8th at our Market too! If you are visiting their booth when the timer rings, you’ll get a coupon!

REPORT FROM LAST WEEK’S MARKET:
Boy! It was hot and humid this past Saturday, but it didn’t keep the crowd away! We had 53 vendors and registered one new vendor. We had visitors from Pennsylvania, Colorado and all parts of Indiana. The melons are in! Our visitors and vendors thoroughly enjoyed the harmonies provided by the Mennonotes.

ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE 2007 ZUCCHINI 500 WINNERS:
Congratulations go to First Place Winner, Conner Smith; Second Place Winner, Gatlin Lewis; Third Place Winner, Josh Mahler; and Runner Up, T.J. Harris.

FOUND:
A set of keys was turned in to the Host Tent. If you’re locked out, stop by the Host Tent next Saturday and pick up your keys or if you need them sooner, give us a call at (812) 653-1047.

Bring your gardening questions to the MASTER GARDENER TABLE and they will be very happy to help you! Learn more about the LOST RIVER COMMUNTIY CO-OP which will be opening a new grocery store in Paoli this fall. You’ll be able to get a sneak preview of what the store will look like and see its floor plan. You can even sign up to be a member!

The Orange County HomeGrown Valley Market is open on Thursdays from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Be sure to visit the Orange County HomeGrown Valley Market now located at the French Lick Town Parking Lot between the dime store and the police station.

THIS WEEK’S EVENTS: The Red Cross will set up from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Market for those who wish to give blood. Presenting donors will receive a gift from the Red Cross and a $1.00 coupon to spend at the Market. Let’s have a big turnout for the Red Cross!!

REPORT FROM LAST WEEK’S MARKET: It was another lovely day at the Market. We had 39 vendors. We registered 4 vendors. We had visitors from New York, Florida and New Mexico. We also welcomed a new volunteer. It was Game Day at the Market. Children stopped by to play board games and use the hula hoops. Those who participated received coupons to spend at the Market. The Jam Tent was overflowing with musicians! The Recycling Co-op set up a table to inform visitors about the new recycling center located in Paoli.

THIS WEEK’S EVENTS: It’s Game Day at the Market. Stop by the Host Tent and we’ll have a variety of board games to play. So put on your game face, grab a partner and have some old fashioned fun at the Market. All those who participate will receive a coupon to spend at the Market. We invite musicians to fill our jam tent with music! Also, we have hoola hoops for the youngsters and the young at heart!

OUR VENDOR OF THE WEEK: Linda Lee is our featured vendor this week. She sells herbs, produce, flower arrangements and pretty envelopes she makes herself. She might have a baby possum for you to see! Linda is one of our many WIC vendors. If you are visiting her booth when the timer rings, you’ll get a coupon!

REPORT FROM LAST WEEK’S MARKET: It was a picture perfect day at the Market. We had 45 vendors. We registered 2 vendors. Our customer count hovered around 100 all morning. We had visitors from Louisiana and Pennsylvania. The Lawrence County Rock Club displayed their rocks and minerals. They told interested visitors about the Gem, Mineral, Fossil Show/Swap they are sponsoring which will take place at the Monroe County Fairgrounds on June 22 through 24. After the Market, many customers, vendors and volunteers headed to Paoli for the Lotus Dickey Festival.
