THIS WEEK’S EVENTS:
Boy, do we have a treat for our visitors this week! We’re going to have music and food. What more could anyone want on a Saturday morning? Local music favorites, Box of Chocolates, will play some fine tunes. We’ll also welcome Chef Michael Jackson of Sinclair’s Restaurant at the West Baden Dome and who also happens to be one of our most popular vendors, selling his tasty barbecue sauces. Chef Jackson will cook up something delicious for our Farm to Fork Demonstration using farmers market ingredients purchased that morning. Be sure to stop by and have a sample. He’ll fire up the grill, which was donated by Hoosier Hills Credit Union, at 10:00. And, as always, our Farmers Market Jammers will fill the late summer air with their fun music. Bring your instrument and/or your singin’ voice and join in!

OUR VENDOR OF THE WEEK: Pam and Tom Zehnder will be our Vendors of the Week. They sell farm fresh eggs and delicious homemade peanut brittle. If you are visiting their booth when the timer rings, you’ll get a coupon!

REPORT FROM LAST WEEK’S MARKET: It was a beautiful day in the neighborhood on market day. We had 59 vendors. We registered 3 new vendors including a child vendor selling his homemade lemonade. We had 9 volunteers helping out with our market chores. The Red Cross Blood Drive collected 17 pints of blood, more than their expected goal for the morning. Donors received coupons for the Market and for the Blue Spot Coffee Shop, our newest neighbors who also gave out samples of their specialty coffees during our cooking demonstration. Alice whipped up some sweet French toast using her grandmother’s recipe, Cathy Davison’s egg bread, farm fresh eggs from the Zehnders and the Bender-Beauregards and then she topped it all off using Vance Elliott’s maple syrup. The Earth Mamas Dance Troupe kept visitors entertained with their graceful moves. Our Farmers Market Jammer Tents (We now have two!) were filled with a record 20 musicians throughout the morning. One gentleman heard about the Jammers at last week’s HomeGrown Arts Lawn Chair Concert at the French Lick Springs Hotel. He and his wife were visiting the hotel from Dayton, Ohio. He brought his ukulele to the Market and played along with the Jammers while his wife shopped for souvenirs.

OTHER GREAT FEATURES AT THE MARKET: Be sure to stop by and see our new BUCK A BOOK/BOOK A BOOK TRAILOR where you can browse a great selection of books. We welcome the donations of books for the book trailer. All of the money from book sales goes to support Orange County HomeGrown Farmers Market (Orleans). Just bring the books to the BUCK A BOOK/BOOK A BOOK TRAILOR and choose a book for free. Visit us at the Host Tent and have a free cup of coffee courtesy of our neighbor, Maple Street Restaurant. We are fortunate to have friendly, helpful MASTER GARDENERS at every market. Bring your gardening questions to the MASTER GARDENER TABLE and they will be very happy to help you! Learn more about the LOST RIVER COMMUNTIY CO-OP which will be opening a new grocery store in Paoli this fall. You’ll be able to get a sneak preview of what the store will look like and see its floor plan. You can even sign up to be a member!
